Warrington has more than its fair share of ghost stories. 'Bunkum!' I hear you shout, 'There's no such thing as ghosts.' Personally, I couldn't agree more. However, sceptic or non-sceptic, what cannot be denied is the stories in themselves are real; somebody took the time to tell them and somebody like me got scared when hearing them for the first time. Tale tales, urban myths or facts? I'll leave that for you to decide…
Interested in local history? Even the most dubious of the above tales have an element of truth about them. Most are linked to people or places that really did exist and those that aren't typically have something in them that will make you giggle. In short, even non-believers may get something out of reading them!
This section of allthingswarrington is dedicated to the memory of Warrington's most prolific ghost story writer, Wally Barnes. In addition to revisiting and adding new historical detail to a small selection of Wally's 200+ tales by way of tribute, this section also features some less familiar stories compiled using information supplied from a variety of sources.
